Lifeline Theatre Development Showcase
I’ll be acting in a staged reading of Sandra Jackson-Opoku’s work-in-development, HUNGRY GHOST FESTIVAL, directed by Lifeline Artistic Director Ilesa Duncan.
About HUNGRY GHOST FESTIVAL:
Every year at Shanghai’s Hungry Ghost Festival, spirit Luz Lee reappears inexplicably. She travels to Greenville, Mississippi, a town ravaged by the Great River Flood of 1927, in order to unravel this riddle. There, a 17-year-old Luz, her Chinese grandfather, and her African-American step-grandmother have all been forced to flee. Luz is kidnapped to New Orleans where she works as a maid and then a singer in a Creole bordello. We are eventually transported back to 1939 China, at the height of Luz’ singing career. Will Ghost Luz be able to solve the mystery of what she’s lost?
